Reflection

May 23rd, 2007 by · No Comments · my reflection

I have not done well in my Mid Year Examination as i have not be studying very hard for the the examination. I am not very satisfied with my english results as it is quite low. For situational, I scored 9/20 and my composition, is scored 11/20. For paper 2, i score 32/60. I think it does not help me if i carry one having this marks. i need to improve myself by changing my attitude.

My attitude was very bad when i was in primary school. I tried to change my laziness and try to complete it within the time given. But it did not work. I seldom revise on my work. But now, i revise my work but it still couldn’t work. I need to read more book to have the correct spelling and improve on my grammar. I need to change my attitude now if not when I am in secondary 4, taking O levels, I will not now lots of things as i am too lazy.

In order for me to improve, i need to have lots of information. we can get information from the internet. But not all information can be get from internet. Sometimes, you need to go out to now more about the thing that is happening around us. I also can learn from my mistake or my friends mistake. Learning from their mistake could give a thought that this mistake might happen on us. so we must not be careless.

I will give all my hard work on the coming examination and test.

Experience on video gaming

May 16th, 2007 by · No Comments · Exprience on video gaming

I have lots of experience in video gaming . I tried lots of video game console like xbox, xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Gameboy, Playstation and many more. Most parents might say that playing of video games is a bad but some games might actually help you. Like some adventure games, you need to look at the map and identify the direction you need to go. This is like geography. This is interpretation of maps. But some games are addictive like games in arcade and gameboy. The shooting games and racing games are the most popular in the arcade. The shooting games attract the players by having lots of enemies in the game because the more enemies that were killed will tell you that you are the best player in this game. One by one, players play this game in order to win the best player and claim himself/herself the best player. Likewise for racing. Once there is a best driver, others will try to win the best driver and claim as best driver. For gameboy games, the most popular and addictive game is Pokemon. This game have lots of different version. The more version this game have, the more spoiled the child will be because all the different version is in different console. Some might be in Nintendo DS while others might be in gamecube. That means parents need to spend lots of money buying all this just to play that particular game. There are also games that can help you, example Dogz, a game from Nintendo DS. This game could actually teach us how to teach us how to take care of the dog and what you learn in the game could help you in real life.

Wanted: Singapore to develop the next Youtube or Skype

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, who is the Minister of Community Developments, Youth and Sports and Second Minister For Information , Communication and Arts, want Singapore to keep up with the changing world by developing. She need to have people with very goo ideas(bright ideas) to develop the nexy Youtube or Skype. How did she do it? All she need is funds. The fund can is for research and developments so as to attract individuals with very good ideas (bright ideas). What she did was to participated in a World Economic Forum (WEF). It is an annual meeting for policy-makers, thinkers and businessmen. Where was it held? It was held at Swiss ski resort. She also give people with very good ideas to give them a start by giving them resources and investments and develop their ideas and put them into the worldwide market. Their website might be ‘one in a million’. Which means in a million of website, this website is the one with the most number of peolple visting. She also wanted singaporeans to have ideas to attract Multinational Corporation(MNC). Why is it so important? Attracting of MNC could help more singaporeeans to have jobs and they will invest in Singapore.

My opinion

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan cares for Singapore example helping to develop Singapore into a better world and she also planned for our future. All of us should learn from her as this type of people is wanted in Singapore. I also learn that being a minister is not a easy job. It need skills and need to read alot to understanding things better.

History of Youtube

January 30th, 2007 by · No Comments · Summary on Youtube

Youtube is a popular free video sharing website which lets users upload, view, and share video clips. It was founded in February 2005 by three former employees of Paypal. They are Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim. They started a small website and a few video. As time goes by, they company grew from a small number of people to sixty-seven people. When they advertise on yahoo, people kept going in to the website. The company was named on the magazine TIME “Inventions of the year” for 2006. In my opinion, the company was fantastic as within a year they were given a name or a title of something. I have been asking this question when I started doing this homework. Why Google spend so much money on Youtube other than other video sharing website? After much of the consideration, before during research on the question, I think the reason is because Youtube is the only video sharing website that attracts people. After spending some time on to the question, I have found out that Youtube is the market leader in the fastest growing part of the internet. As broadband speeds get faster and faster more and more people are going to watch video on the net. 90% plus of the market will go to YouTube. Google tried to compete but got nowhere, so they bought the company. It is worth pointing out that they didn’t pay out cash. Google bought YouTube for shares & the owners have signed a contract agreeing that they’re not going to sell those shares for a few years. From what I think, Google have paid more than what Youtube people are supposed to receive. I also found out that at least one million people visited the website in a month. Co-founders Mr. Larry Page, president of Products, and Sergey Brin, president of Technology discussed on how to expand Youtube. They said “There are two ways that I know how Google will make money out of You Tube. The number of people visiting the site is already very large and will be even bigger in the next few years. Google will link its various services to YouTube and drive even more people over there. There are a handful of sites on the net that get more than 100 million people visiting each month & Google/YouTube is one of them. Also, the basic service will still be free but we think you’ll see the introduction of paid add-on services. Google could easily offer a movie download service for example and split the revenue with the film studios. Google will end up offering a whole range of ‘social networking’ services through YouTube and could even end up using it to compete with MySpace.”Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minster for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Second Minster for imformation, Communication and the Arts said that “Singapore needs to attract individuals with bright ideas who can develop the next Youtube or the next Skype”. So in order to do this, he participated in a series of discussionson on new media at the World Economics Forum(WEF), it is an annual pow-wow between policy-makers, thinkers and businessmen which was held at Swiss ski resort. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan also said that “The key thing is that the biggies are all coming from small groups of individuals with a bright ideas. For us to get our share, we need to be able to attract some people with some ideas and give them a lanch pad to develop these ideas and plug into the global market.” From what I know about this passage now is that Dr Vivian Balakrishnan is telling us that every company start from a small office or a small group and then they slowly expand the company until they are avilable in the global market and she give oppurtunities to those who give out bright ideas by helping them in their financial needs and develop their ideas. This might help us to get in to the global market like those three men who created Youtube. The global market can help Singapore to get even more money like the company called Creative. How did Creative make so much money? Creative sell their product worldwide rather than just selling in Singapore. If we only sell in Singapore, not mant people will buy. But if you sell it worldwide, it can not only money, it can also tell foreginers that Singapore is a very efficient country.

Those I agree

1)    About the number of people visiting the site is already very large and will be even bigger in the next few years, I very much agree as this site is the most popular site although I didn’t see any advertisement. This means that without any wasting money on advertisement, this website will be famous regarding on the amount of videos. Nevertheless, it also means that Google make money instead of spending their hard earn money on some advertisement on web or on the newspaper.

2)    If Google let people easily offer a movie download service for example and split the revenue with the film studios, illegal disc seller will not be able to download it and sell to digital immigrants or selling to film directors for further information on their movie as some video are only available on Youtube.

Those I disagree

1)    If Google will link its various services to Youtube, I would think that the website is not a good one or what we say an “inefficient” website. This also shows that Youtube have a low standard or a no quality website. It also shows that people are not satisfied with Youtube, maybe because there are insufficient of videos.

2)    The basic service will still be free but it may become a paid add-on service for account or maybe some videos like those in the cinemas. I very much agree with it. For movies in the cinema, take that as an example. They can just show us half of the show or even one-quarter of it instead of paying the amount of money every time you see it once. If you add up all the money you spend on a movie, you can even buy the disc, unless you are impatient. You can also watch the movies in the cinemas, unless you are absent-minded.

My opinions

It has taught me that even a big company must start from a small company and slowly expand it. It also answer my question that type in the passage. I think that the way to increase the population, not by advertising but by the numbers of movies or videos or how interesting the website can be like the design of the website.

Personal opinion on online gaming

January 21st, 2007 by · 2 Comments · Opinion on the online gaming

Is gaming online a waste of time? It depends. But i choose yes, it is a waste of time. Why? It is because studying in school help us to gain more knowledge. But I didn’t say it is bad. I too play online games to kill my free time instead of studying. Online gaming can be very addictive as many of the teenagers. Don’t say about teenagers even my relative, which is four years old, plays Maple. It is true that violent games can make a person aggressive in real life. After some research, I found a web that title “Violent games make young men smoke marijuana”. That’s according to a study carried out by Dr Sonya Brady of the University of California. It says that the study, carried out by Dr Brady and Professor

Karen Matthews at the University of Pittsburgh, involved a group of 100 male undergraduates aged 18 to 21, asked to play either Grand Theft Auto III or The Simpsons: Hit and Run. In GTA the player took the role of a criminal and was instructed by the Mafia to beat up a drug dealer with a baseball bat. In The Simpsons: Hit and Run the player took on the role of Homer Simpson attempting to get his daughter’s science project to school before it can be marked late. The study claims that the men who have just played a violent game (GTA) are more likely to see others’ attitudes towards them as hostile, smoke marijuana, and drink alcohol. According to the report in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, playing a violent game caused young men’s blood pressure to increase, and appeared to have a greater effect on those that came from violent homes or communities. No matter what background each male had, the researchers found that playing a violent game made the young men in the study less cooperative and more competitive in completing tasks with another person. After playing one of the games, the males participating in the study were shown a scenario of a teacher telling his class that he suspects some students have cheated, but also that he is proud of those who did well. The teacher then asks a boy called Billy to stay behind after class so that he may speak with him. Participants were then asked to put themselves in Billy’s position. When asked how likely it was that the teacher was going to accuse them of cheating, those participants who had been playing Grand Theft Auto were more likely think they would be accused. The report is also one of the first to link violent games to behaviour other than violence, but will no doubt provide more ammunition to those against violent video games. After reading this article, I don’t quite believe it as I also play Grand Theif Auto III.

I am a online gamer too and through my experience, some games are not worth playing like Maple. It is just a simple games but millions of people around the world. Now there is another game similar to Maple, it is called Ghost Online, It is so alike that yyou can mistoke Ghost Online as Maple. I don’t think that all games are a waste of time like some puzzle game. But we don’t play this type of games. We like to play games that are adventurous. I do not have any recommedation as I like to play violent but not too violent. In my opinion, it is not worth spending time on too violent games or spending money on them as your personalities might change.

Another things I wanted to say is that some violent games. Although some parents may think that violent games change their behaviour. So some parents give them a timetable to organise their time. but not many people, including me, follow the timetable. Instead, they might do things that are not right and become a gangster due to stress. What I know that many parents wanted those violent game to be band. In my own opinion, it has an advantage and a disadvantage. The good thing is not many student would be violent. The bad thing is one of our friend in class is obsence with blood so people who is obsence with blood would be wondering why it is band? This could make them crazy.

Lance armstrong

  Lance Armstrong Biography

American cyclist, Lance Armstrong, is going out on top. The fastest man on two wheels is retiring from cycling after winning his seventh straight Tour De France. He plans to spend more time relaxing and seeing his family. Here’s a look at Lance Armstrong – the guy who’s defeated cancer, the Alps and every other cyclist on the planet.

What he did before getting cancer?

Lance Armstrong competed in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, where he placed 14th in the road race. After the Olympics, Armstrong turned pro and joined the motorola cycling team. His pro career didn’t get off to a great start, as Lance Armstrong finished dead last in his first race. But in 1993, Armstrong won the World Road Race Championship in Oslo, Norway and by 1996 Lance was the seventh-ranked cyclist in the world.

Lance Armstrong Battles Cancer

After competing in the 1996 Olympics Atlanta, Armstrong started to feel tired and weak and couldn’t race as well as he used to. Doctors told Lance he had cancer in his testicles. Lance Armstrong had one of his testicles removed and started massive chemotherapy. The cancer eventually spread to Armstrong’s brain and doctors only gave him a 40 percent chance of surviving. That didn’t stop Lance Armstrong from believing he could race again. Armstrong had surgery and several more doses of chemotherapy and was cancer-free by February 1997.

More About Lance Armstrong
  • Lance founded the Lance Armstrong Foundation to benefit cancer research and the Lance Arm Strong Junior Race Series to promote cycling and racing for American kids.
  • More than 40 million of Lance Armstrong’s “Live Strong” yellow bracelets have been sold to raise money for cancer research
  • Site that i went to collect my information is http://www.kidzworld.com/article/3667-lance-armstrong-biography

    My opinion

He is a kind-hearted man. He help the cancer patients to raise fund. he him self also give money to support them. I admired him as as he have such a good career. Instead of spending his money on other things, he spend his money on the charitey for cancer patients. This tells me that money is not important to him but other people life is much more important. This can make people change alot. lf everyone is like him, cancer patient may not have to pay lot of money or even not to pay. But not everybody is like him. Others may think that money is everything to them. Without them, they will die. But lance Armstrong is not one of them. So in future, if we have problems, we must not give up our our problems will not be solved.
